What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine originating over 2000 years ago.  Very fine needles are inserted into acupuncture points on the body.  The insertion of these needles enables the patients body to react through removing blockages, enableing the free flow of Qi (energy) and encouraging the body to heal itself.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very fine. Most people feel little or no sensation when the needle is inserted.  Once inserted you many feel a tingling, a dull ache, warmth or nothing at all.

What should I expect in my first session?

In the first session we will discuss your health history, take your pulse, look at your tongue and understand your reason for wanting acupuncture.  We will then place the needles in.

How long do the needles stay in?

Once the needles have been placed we will leave them for 15-30 minutes.

How many treatments do I need?

How many sessions of acupuncture you need will vary from patient to patient.  After an initial appointment your acupuncturist will be able to give you an idea of how many sessions you may need.

How should prepare before and after treatment?

Please make sure you have something to eat before you come. After the acupuncture you may feel tired and this is normal.  Make sure you drink plenty of water.

What should I wear?

Please wear loose clothing.
